Recently, Tim and I has been browsing each neighborhood all around Columbus. We started praying for a house. Not that we don't like living in our apartment, because honestly, coming from the neighborhood where I used to live, I like to be close to our neighbors.
We saw the town of Pickerington, and initially, we liked it because of the hills and the old historic downtown. We both like historic houses, one with character and history in it. But later, we found out that "Picktown" is not part of Franklin county where Columbus is, so we have to take it away from our options since we have to consider taxes too.
As we continue to browse, we checked out the city of Gahanna (a suburb of Columbus) and Reynoldsburg. Most of our life this year in Columbus is spent in the northwest (where we are right now) and the neighboring "burbs", so we're trying to get out in our comfort zone and check the places in the southeast (where they say is a high crime area). But apart from what people for the west says...it's actually not that bad in the east
But as of the moment, our eyes are on Bexley. When we first came here in Ohio...Bexley was like far from our consideration in getting a house. One of the reason was the prejudgemental attitude Tim and I have because of the misstatements we heard about the surrounding neighborhood of Bexley. But as we drove all the way around the area the last time we visited this suburb...we just started to pray for it. That God would place us there...that God will help us find a house there. We never even thought of buying a house this year...nor desiring to move this year...but as we continue to meet together in prayer at night...our desire just keeps on flourishing.
Looking online for houses in Bexley the other day, made me doubt a little bit. Is this God? How can we afford it? How can we cancel our contract in our apartment? How is this going to affect our plans for this year? Is this going to work out? We dont know how to deal with agent or brokers, etc. ...and this is what I've read as I continue reading the book "Beyond Jabez" by Wilkinson:
...."the hand of God is hindered by the sin of unbelief." Unbelief sets you up for defeat before you even start. That's also what God's word says in Matthew 13:54-58, we find Jesus after a period of successful ministry throughout the region of Galilee, returning to His hometown of Nazareth. You might think his accomplishments would earn Him a warm reception, but instead, the hometown folk took offense at Him. Matthew tells us, " He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief." Later the disciples attempted unsuccessfully to cast a demon out of a boy, as Jesus had given them authority to do. When they asked Him about their failure, He answered that it was because of their "unbelief" (Matt. 17:20). Then Jesus continued, "I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you"
Can you believe that? If you can, you will see God's hand working through your life, because God's power knows no limitations. How can you know when you're truly believing? Don't wait for a feeling. Pray for guidance and power and then obey. That how you will show that you believe."
I cried and realized how can I question this moment in our life? How can I question God? Wasn't He in New York who kept me safe, guided me, sheltered me? Wasn't He in our relationship before we even got married? Wasn't He with us when we moved to Ohio? Wasn''t He the one who provided for all the hospital bills when I delivered our baby? Those were in the past, but they are the reminders of God's awesome hand in our lives. And it won't end there just because of our unbelief.
Whether we ended up buying a house or staying in our apartment, I'm so blessed to be reminded of His promises to us.
"For I know the plans I have for you" declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord, " and will bring you back from the captivity. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have banished you,'" declares the Lord, "I will bring you back to the place from which I carried you into exile."
Jeremiah 29:11
This is His Word that I am holding on in my life since the time I came to California in 2001...and He has not change.
